Celebrating 275 Years!

In the winter of 1731, Benjamin Franklin and fifty of his friends started the country’s first successful circulation library so that people of moderate means, the 25-year-old Franklin included, could better themselves through reading. Over 500,000 volumes later, the Library Company of Philadelphia, now a world-renowned independent research library, is turning 275. We are celebrating this milestone throughout the year with a special exhibition, publication, new web site, and, an exciting event worthy of our founder.
